Blockchain co-founder Vitalik Buterin said the foundation is using a simplified version of distributed validator technology — "DVT-lite" — to stake 72,000 ETH. The goal is to reduce the setup process to something close to a one-click experience, where operators choose machines, launch the software, enter the same key on each, and the system connects and begins staking automatically. If that machine goes offline, the validator stops and may face penalties. DVT spreads this responsibility across multiple machines — only a threshold of them need to agree for the validator to function.
